DURHAM COUNTY SENIOR LADIES' GOLF ASSOCIATION

AGM HONOURS 2021

The very special achievments of two of our members were rewarded at the recent AGM.  Eileen Stothert was given Honoray Life Membership of the Association in recognition of the many years during which she served as Honorary Secretary and Ruth Lindley was given an engraved glass paperweight for having represented the Association in 100 Richardson Trophy Matches.  Many congratulations to both these ladies.

A.G.M. REPORT

The 70th Annual General Meeting of the Association was held at Brancepeth Castle Golf Club on Monday 18 October 2021.

It was so pleasing to see a large number of ladies attending, especially when many are still apprehensive about being in close contact with others.

I was delighted to send 100th Birthday Wishes to Nina Nordman.  Nina joined Whickham in 1943, she was Captain three times and also Handicap Secretary at the club for a number of years. Nina also enjoyed her golf within the various County Associations.

Jennifer gave a very comprehensive Captain’s Report.  She has worked tirelessly for the Association during her Captaincy.  The past 18 months have proved both enjoyable and frustrating at times.  Thanks to COVID restrictions, preparing to host the Northern Championship pushed us all to the edge, however against all odds,  great committee team work led by Jennifer made the Championship a total success.  She is now going to enjoy ‘me’ time ……well deserved.

Del as Vice Captain is responsible for the Bronze Team. In her report she gave details of the matches against Northumberland and Cumbria.  We lost to Northumberland at a wet Tyneside but had a resounding win against Cumbria at a very windy Silloth.  Del presented County Colours to the new members of the team Laura Hall and Pamela Rand (Billingham), Louise Fryer (Eaglescliffe), Liz Inions (Dinsdale Spa), Sue Shaw (Tyneside).

Ruth Lindley was presented with a memento to recognise her achievement of playing 100 Richardson Trophy matches for Durham.  Ruth was first selected in 2002, her last match played in 2019.  Congratulations Ruth.

You will have seen from the Agenda that there were a number of Proposals for discussion. These were all approved.   In no particular order (as they say on Strictly), here are the proposals:-

1.Life Membership to Mrs Eileen Stothert for her exceptional service to the Association.

2.The name of the Durham County Veteran Ladies' Golf Association be changed to Durham County Senior Ladies' Golf Association.

  3. Change in County Colour. The new colour will be white shirt, blue midlayer or similar top, worn with navy trousers, shorts, skort.

  4. Rule 2.c to read “joining applicants must have a current WHS Handicap Index of 40.0 or under. If this handicap subsequently increases, membership of the Association may continue”

 5. Rule 12 to read “no rule shall be repealed or amended, and no new rule made except by the majority of members present at the AGM of the Association".

I would like to thank everyone for their contribution to the proposal debates.

Del’s first duty as Captain of the Durham County Senior Ladies' Golf Association was to present the Competition Secretary’s badge to Caroline (Caz) Smith (Barnard Castle), Committee badges to Marion Robinson (Barnard Castle).  Ruth Lowery (Ravensworth) is on holiday and will receive her badge at a later date.  I wish Del and her new Committee a most successful and enjoyable year.
