Durham County Veteran Ladies' Golf Association

 Elaine foot

Elaine was really looking forward to playing golf at Beamish on Monday, but sadly, she fell and has broken 2 bones in her ankle and 1 small one in her leg.  She is currently in hospital in Durham waiting to have an operation.  We wish her a very speedy recovery.

As there were no nominations for the post of Hon. Secretary at the Vets' AGM in 2009,the Vets committee co-opted Eileen Stothert as Hon. Secretary at their first meeting in December of that year.  This year's AGM (if we could have one) would have been her eleventh!
Although the term of office is nominally six years, there have still not been any nominations for this demanding job but Eileen announced her retirement earlier this year and stressed that this really is her last year as Secretary. After eleven years of arranging our competitions and meetings, not to mention generally keeping us on the 'straight and narrow', Eileen's decision is understandable to say the least, but she will be sorely missed. During her term of office Eileen has earned our admiration for her efficient organisation and our gratitude for the enormous amount of work she has done on our behalf. We cannot thank her enough, but after the recent virtual meeting of the Vets' committee Eileen was presented with a lovely bracelet, a gift from the Association in appreciation and recognition of this exceptional service.

 Thank you Eileen

Eileen Bracelet  .............  Thank you all very much for the very kind gift you bought for my retirement as Secretary. I thought you might like to see it so have attached a photograph.
Thank you Jennifer for the very nice words at the meeting, I think we made a good team and worked well together which I enjoyed very much.
I have enjoyed being Secretary for the "Vets" working with different Captains and Committee members over the years. I've made many new friends because of it and hope to carry on helping in some next year as well as playing in the competitions.
My very best wishes go to Jennifer and Del for next year when I hope normal life will be resumed.
Once again, many thanks for the gift, it is really appreciated.

At the virtual meeting of the Vets' committee on 19th October it was revealed that no nominations have been received for the posts of Hon Secretary or Committee Member.  The retiring Secretary Eileen, was warmly thanked for her years of excellent service in this job and will receive a gift from the association by way of thanks, BUT, SHE WILL NOT CONTINUE AS SECRETARY!!!     A replacement must be found, even if someone agrees to 'hold the fort' for just one year.   Basic computer skills are needed and the job entails arranging and recording the meetings of the committee (shorthand not necessary) and arranging the courses and dates for our competitions.  To see the detailed Job Description, please click here.  Eileen will gladly answer any questionsThis email address is being protected from spambots.  Please talk to your friends and help to find someone who will take on this job and keep the association running.  Thank you.

Congratulations to Jessica Hall on winning the County Championship at Hartlepool by beating Shannon O'Dwyer at the first extra hole. The many spectators were treated to some excellent golf in what was possibly the best final for many years with both players playing beautifully.  We are lucky to have such talented players in Durham. Both girls are currently studying at Colleges in the US but have come throught the County's Junior programme and credit must be given to the County Association for the encouragement and support which they give to all our young players. Interesting to note that the youngest players in the Championship this year will have to wait 40 years before they can join the Vets!
