Karen Lee beat Ruth Lindley in the final of a thrilling championship.
The 2018 Championship was held at Brancepeth Castle in beautiful weather and the course was in fabulous condition after such a wet spring. A real compliment to the hard work of the greenkeepers.

The qualifying round on Tuesday May 8th saw a big enthusiastic field hitting the fairways and unfortunately for some, the rough! This year we had more than the required 16 players wanting to go through to the match play so the competition for places was fierce.  At the end of the day, the 16 qualifiers continued to the match play rounds starting on Thursday 9th May.

Thursday came and once again the sun was shining and the fairways welcoming. By lunch time 16 had become 8, battling it out for a place in the semi finals. There were some tight games and some not quite so tight but all were played in good spirit and enjoyed.  In the semi finals on Friday morning  Karen Lee played Marianne Moore and Ruth Lindley played Lyn Davison. They were both excellent matches, tight and exiting. Karen and Ruth winning their matches and progressing to the final.

The final was a credit to both players who showed us all a great standard of golf played in a competitive but friendly spirit. Karen won the match on the 16th green. Congratulations to Karen on being Durham Champion again and to Ruth for her tenacity coming a creditable runner up.
