Sivewright 4BBB at Tyneside Golf Club.
The day before the competition it looked like we would not be able to play because the rain poured and poured flooding the course. However, on the morning of the competition the Greens Staff started work very early in the morning and worked very hard to get the course into great shape for us to start teeing off at 11.00am.
We had a great field and the sun shone for most of the day. Tyneside Golf Club offered us a lovely warm welcome with a special menu for the day and beautiful flowers provided by Captain Liz Giles. I would like to thank everyone at Tyneside for their hard work and let them know how much we appreciated what they did.
Well done to everyone who played and congratulations to our winners, Lyn Stearman and Ruth Lowery from Ravensworth who had a very productive day winning best nett, best gross and the Team shield. Just for your information, the best gross stableford score is worked out as if a stableford is played without giving the player any shots at all (ie off scratch)
Special Congratulations also to Christine Bell from Houghton Le Spring GC who had a hole in one on the par three 9thhole. She was presented with a bottle of wine to help her celebrate her success. I gather this is her second hole in one but as all golfers know, they are all very special.
Thank you to all of the vet’s committee members who helped to make the day run so smoothly. We look forward to returning to Tyneside Golf Club again next season to enjoy their lovely course and sample their great hospitality.
I hope to see many of you in our next competition, which is the Jean Wood Waltz (team of three) which will be held at Beamish Golf Club on 16September. This is always a very popular competition and Beamish is a fabulous course so hopefully, I’ll see you there.
