The Vets Jamboree was played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Hexham.
The Jamboree is a national competition with teams from Scotland, The North, Midlands and The South competing. There was some fabulous golf to watch with the 'crème de la crème' of vets golf playing. There was a goodly turn out of Supporters wearing the North's light blue and a special 'Thank You' from Chris to everyone from Durham, but sadly our team was pipped at the post by South. With a deficit of 2 matches to 1 after the morning foursomes it was always going to be an uphill struggle in the afternoon singles. Champion Karen withdrew with an injury but Cath Rawthore and Caroline Berry got us off to a great start by winning their matches and make the score 3-2. South had the best of the next two games, 3-4, but then Julie Wheeldon and Karen Jopling made the finish truly nail biting, both going down the 18th, Julie1 down and Karen 1 up. Karen hung on to win but the South were equally steady in the other match so the final score was 5-4 to South. In the other match Scotland beat Midlands 5-4 to finish third. Well done to Chris, Ruth and the North team, you did us proud.
