The season has got underway and I don’t know where the year is going to, it’s flying by in such a whirl!
The Silver Spring Meeting went ahead at Blackwell Grange Golf Club in Darlington and started off with the medal round on Monday 6th May. It was a cold rainy day and all of our ladies did us proud with some very good scores. On Wednesday 8th May the first and second round knock-outs took place and my goodness, the weather really tested the players. It rained all day and greens staff had to be on standby to squeegee greens as water gathered on a number of them. Undaunted, our valiant players continued to give us a fantastic display of skill and determination and I was completely in awe of the high level of play that I saw. Finals day came on Friday 10th May and I’m pleased to say that the weather improved. Once again, we were treated to a fine demonstration of the game at its best. In the end Ruth Lindley triumphed in a keenly fought final match beating Claire Miller on the 17th hole. Full details of all prize winners can be found by clicking here. Thank you to everyone who helped to organise and run this competition. It all ran smoothly and in spite of the weather it was an enjoyable three days. Congratulations to all of our prize-winners and thank you to all of our competitors for taking part.
June is a busy month as we have the Cheshire Richardson Trophy match on the 7th followed by the popular Bronze Championship at Wearside on 13th. We then play the Lancashire Richardson Trophy match on the 17th at Blackwell Grange. I would ask that as many of our members as possible please come along (and bring friends) and support our players in their matches as this would get our competition season off to a really positive start.
Hope to see you all soon on a fairway somewhere in Durham!
