Durham County Veteran Ladies' Golf Association

The Jean Wood Trophy, one of our most popular competitions of the year was played on a glorious sunny day at Beamish Park Golf Club on Monday 16th September.  The course is one of my particular favourites and it was great to see a large field enjoy such a lovely day. The greenkeepers had managed to get the course in lovely condition and the staff in the clubhouse were busy serving fresh scones and other lovely things to eat.  The winning team was Alyson Chapman, Julie Armitage, (Boldon) and Debbie Ryan (Chester-le-Street)  with 76 points. Well done to them and also to Alison James from Blackwell Grange who won nearest the pin.

On 23rd September we played the Autumn Singles at Woodham.  The most repeated phrase I heard in the clubhouse afterwards was related to how many balls players had lost!!! Certainly, a course better for knowing and this was reflected in the scores. Congratulations to the winners, well done!!  Please see the main page for full results of this competition.  I would like to thank Woodham for allowing us to host this competition and hope that we will be back soon.

The 9 hole competition which was due to be played at Barnard Castle on 2nd October has sadly had to be cancelled as only 9 teams entered and it was not considered that this was going to be viable.  We plan to hold this competition again next year and hope for better support in order for it to go ahead.

I’d like to thank those of the members of the committee who helped to run these competitions and also all of our members who support the association by attending our events throughout the year. Thank you all very much and I hope you have had a very enjoyable golfing season.

(And thank you Anne for all the hard work you have put in this year so that we can enjoy ourselves. Ed.)
