Even though we’ve not been playing our competitions your committee have been busy behind the scenes organising various events for members to help get us all ready for the start of the season.
On 24th February we held the “Mind Matters” session with Professional Performance Coach Duncan McCarthy. This event was held at Durham City Golf Club and was attended by over 60 of our members. Duncan shared his advice and tips for dealing with negativity and promoting positivity and self-belief. The audience had the opportunity to ask questions and benefit from Duncan’s experience of working both with professional and amateur sports people. I received lots of very positive feedback from this session which was well received by players of all standards. Thank you to Duncan and to Durham City Golf Club for their hospitality.
On 11th March we held a group coaching session at Blackwell Grange Golf Club in Darlington. This was very well supported and I’m pleased to report that this year (unlike last year) the sun was shining and it was a lovely bright day. The Club Pro Peter Raine arranged chipping and pitching stations then a session on the driving range with longer clubs. This was topped off with a light-hearted friendly 9 hole Texas scramble which everyone seemed to enjoy very much. Photographs from the day can be seen by clicking this link. Thank you to everyone who supported this event. It was a great social get together as well as an opportunity for a bit of practice and I saw lots of very happy faces and could hear laughter and cheers ringing around the course. Great!
We have held our second and third coaching events at Cocken Lodge. The days were very popular and enjoyable and on the third event the sun shone, which was great. We have learned new skills and we hope to put these to good use as the season gets going.
Have fun, keep practising and let’s have a great golfing year
